Essential Components of a Complete Evaluation

M.A.P.S. evaluations are multidimensional and assess the client's functioning in a number of areas

A thorough review of the presenting problem. The presenting problem(s) is the reason the individual is seeking treatment or an evaluation and it is also often the referral question. A comprehensive record review along with in-depth interviews of individuals associated with the client (e.g., the client's treatment team, family, teachers, etc.) are the methods typically utilized during a review of the presenting problem.

An in-depth psychological interview. The interview is always in person and it is where Dr. Gonzalez Boas gets to know the client personally and in-depth. A review of current symptoms, history of symptoms, and developmental history are collected so that an accurate picture of the individual is obtained. Questions are asked in the areas of family, social, medical, media, personal goals, and work/school.

Psychological testing related to the presenting problem. Dr. Gonzalez Boas has selected specific testing batteries to assess the client in a number of areas of functioning. These tests typically consist of answering questions on standardized instruments. The tests selected may measure moods, personality, aptitude, pathology, skill, intelligence, or ability.

A summary of the results and feedback session. After the initial interviews and assessment batteries have been administered, Dr. Gonzalez Boas then integrates all of the information gained to create a comprehensive and multidimensional clinical picture of the client. This summative evaluation generates appropriate diagnoses in four areas: identifiable psychiatric disorders, personality disorders, medical conditions which may be affecting mental health, academic/neurocognitive disorders, and social/environmental problems.

Recommendations and suggestions. A list of recommended interventions to address the problems identified in the assessment will be presented in a clear manner.  These recommendations are typically treatment interventions which have been shown through research and practice to effectively work on the problems identified.
